The Waterfront is a wonderful place to live and work, vibrant, colourful and steeped in history. Modern life throws up many challenges, and we can't deny that we have our share. It was Angelina Jolie that said " Life comes with many challenges. The ones that should not scare us are the ones we can take on and take control of."
If we all belive in the positives of our Waterfront residential and business community, we can and will overcome the negative factors that make the headlines.
The Ipswich Waterfront community welcomes the input of our resident student population, whether you attend the college or the university your voice is important to us, the community at large and of course our future.
Your vibrant presence brightens our every day life. Please get involved and contribute to the waterfront experience.

Area committees are a way for citizens to raise issues, make decisions, and allocate funding for local matters. However, the Local Government Association (LGA) says that the Ipswich Borough Council's area committees are too formal and ineffective, with low resident participation. Let's change that go to the meetings and take part in local democracy. Things are changing be part of that change.

Flats approvedfor first and second floor of Waterfront buildingShikhar
Plans to convert commercial units on the first and second floor of an Ipswich Waterfront building have been approved by the planning
authority.
Ipswich Borough Council received the plans in September to see four flats created out of commercial units in The Winerack on the marina.
Three of the flats would be created in the south-east corner of The Winerack, adding to the high-rise residential block that already exists.
The other will be in the north-west corner of The Winerack.
The plans have now been approved by the borough council - with conditions to ensure that there is a good supply of water in the flats.
The four flats would have two or three bedrooms. (Image: Charlotte Bond) One flat will be a three-bedroom apartment, two bedrooms of which will be en-suite, with a study and an open plan kitchen, living and dining area.
The three flats, which would be built in the south-east corner, would all be two-bedroom and will also have an open plan kitchen, living and dining area.
In the plans, the developers said that "the loss of employment is acknowledged" in turning commercial units into residential, but due to how long the units have been empty they think it will be more beneficial.
A new convenience store at Ipswich Waterfront has revealed that it will be opening in the new year.
Workers employed by Londis had begun internal works on a part of the unit on Albion Wharf, which was meant to be the town's first BrewDog, in October.
Following a series of installation works, including fridges, the national convenience store's parent company, Booker, has submitted plans to add Londis' signs and other advertising boards - which have been approved.
Now, they are set to open the new store on January 10.
They plan to open from 7am to 11pm between Monday and Saturday and from 8am to 10pm on Sunday.
A Booker spokesperson had previously said: “We’re really proud to support our independent retailers in local communities, right across the UK, and are delighted to be welcoming a brand new Londis store in the coming months.”
New life could be brought into a former pub and Chinese restaurant in Ipswich as it has now been sold for more than £200,000.
Dating back to the 1860s, the Golden Ship pub in Cliff Road was known as the Ship Launch until 2010, when it closed after several sets of managers tried to revitalise it.
It became a Chinese takeaway bearing the current name, The Golden Ship, which closed in 2018.
The owner of the property Keltik Solutions Ltd put the venue on sale via an auction with the guide price of £200,000 - and it was sold for £205,000.
The pub sold just above the guide price. The 160-year-old venue was owned for years by the nearby Tolly Cobbold brewery, and the pub provided generations of dock workers and locals a place to let their hair down after a hard day's work.
The pub was located away from residential areas, close to the dock front, and thus had to survive on the passing yard workers for business.
In the 1970s it rose to fame and became a go-to pub in town with pinball machines, darts and shove ha’penny.
The pub sits next to Ship Launch Road. At the turn of the century, sales at the pub dwindled and it closed in 2010.
Work has begun on Ipswich Waterfront to install seven new light columns in a bid to brighten the area up.
Suffolk Street Lighting announced it would be replacing two existing solar-powered units with the new columns near DanceEast, in March.
They had said that the work would be completed by the end of this year, however the county council body has only put up barriers to begin the work.
The project will cost the council £40,860.
The project would cost the council over £40,000. (Image: Shikhar Talwar) There are currently two solar powered lights in the area, but due to the lack of sunlight the county council say they are not being effective to light up that area of the waterfront.
Some residents have complained about this, and called for the new lighting to be installed quickly.
The two existing lights have been in place since 2022 after Suffolk County Councillor for the area Rob Bridgeman had pushed for it.
However, Mr Bridgeman has repeatedly emphasised this is not enough, and more work should be done to ensure the area is well lit
Work set to begin at Loungers Bar in Ipswich Waterfront.
New waterfront bar applies to add signs and menu to shop front
A new bar set to launch at Ipswich Waterfront has applied for permission to add signs and a menu to the shop front, ahead of its opening this summer.
In November 2023, Loungers UK announced plans to convert the unused Burton Son and Sanders warehouse on St Peters Wharf into a bar and cafe.
Ipswich Borough Council approved the plans in March, as planning officers said due to the site being vacant for a "significant period of time" the change of use would have a "positive impact upon the area".
Workers started the renovations in August and now the owners have applied to Ipswich Borough Council for the bar's signs and menu at the entrance.
The proposal includes provisions for five signs, one of which will be suspended from the canopy.
The bar is expected to open in early summe, Once complete, the new site will be open seven days a week for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks.
Loungers UK Limited already operates more than 230 sites across the country through two brands, The Lounges and The Cosy Clubs.
